Overview

Performs occupational health related nursing duties on-site at industry locations, including clinical nursing, injury/illness management, and health/wellness promotion for employees and family members over 18 years.  Provides leadership by working cooperatively with other team members and disciplines in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.  Supervises on-site DCH hourly staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs and supervises basic and/or advanced nursing tasks indicated for adult patients at onsite industry clinics.
  2. Facilitating processes for Medical Leave Management.  (Disability, Work Comp and FML)
  3. Performs tasks required for surveillance and routine examinations.  May include, but not limited to PFT, Drug and Alcohol Screening, Audiogram, Lab Test, EKG, Vision Screening, Vaccinations.
  4. Performs assessments and completes documentation for patients presenting for initial injury/illness care and reoccurring visits.
  5. Takes call after hours and responds to health related emergencies and manages progression to further medical treatment.
  6. Dispenses routine medications as ordered by physician. Manages and maintains medication stock.
  7. Provides basic care or treatments, such as taking vital signs, assessing pain level, administering prescribed medications, wound dressings and application of splints/braces.
  8. Communicates test results and x-ray reports to physician.
  9. Reports abnormal results and/or observations to physician.
  10. Anticipates the needs of the physician, ensuring that follow-up test results, reports, and any outside documentation are available for review.
  11. Completes documentation and correctly organizes all medical data in medical record. 
  12. Provides and documents patient education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, and developmental needs, after identifying barriers to learning.
  13. Maintains a well-stocked, safe, clean work environment.
  14. Attends in-service programs, all mandatory required training/education and unit/department/service meetings.
  15. Responsible for supervising all other clinic staff to include the assignment of schedules and duties.
  16. Interview, selects, hires and retains employees.
  17. Ensures orientation and training for employees.
  18. Manages performance.
  19. Executes progressive discipline up to and including termination.
  20. Manages front line operations of area of accountability related to meeting/exceeding departmental goals, 5 keys of excellence, DCH Mission and Vision.
  21. Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  22. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  23. Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  24. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  25. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  26. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Must have a current Alabama RN licensure and must be in good standing with the board.
  2. Must have at least 2 years nursing experience.
  3. Experience in Urgent Care/Emergency Medicine preferred. 
  4. Experience in Occupational Medicine preferred.
  5. BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  6. Computer skills required.
  7. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Interpersonal Relationships: This position requires working and communicating effectively within a team in a fast-paced working environment delivering medical services to patients and clients.
  • Physical Work Conditions: This position includes potential exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazardous material. This position requires wearing personal protective equipment in appropriate situations.
  • Structural Job Characteristics: The Nucor Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 0700-1700 work schedules are variable, but requires work necessary to perform the job.  The position requires evaluation of departmental processes, planning and implementing necessary changes and evaluating outcomes.  Decision-making skills are required, gauging impact of decisions on staff and client results.

  • This positions requires talking, hearing, bending, twisting, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motion, standing, and/or using hands to handle, control, or feel objects.
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
