Overview

This position involves working closely with patients, as well as the doctors who treat them.

Reviewing the chart, scheduling various types of surgeries, obtain pre-authorizations, ability to take direction and multi-task.

Responsibilities

  1. Serves as main resource to physician for surgery scheduling.
  2. Work with insurance companies to get prior authorization for patients.
  3. Coordinates the admission and transfer of patients.
  4. Communicates information to patients and families.
  5. Maintains physician’s surgical calendar.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
  7. Completes all surgical forms and sends to surgical facility.
  8. Set the patient’s up for preadmission testing.
  9. Make postop appointments.
  10. Ensures all paperwork needed for surgery is received by the facility.
  11. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma/GED required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Previous EMR experience preferred
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Physical presence onsite is essential.  Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.  Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance. Very good interpersonal communication and customer service skills required.  

 

Physical:  Medium work – Exerting 20 – 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to more objects.  Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.   Good manual and finger dexterity.  Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of sitting.  Some light driving required. 

Psychological:  Contact with Others, Deal with external customers/clients, sometimes dealing with unpleasant people, occasionally coordinating letters/memos, working with work groups or as a Team constantly/consistently.
