Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the overall operations of the Nursing Services department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current state and federal laws and regulations.

1. Directs, coordinates, evaluates, supervises and ensures all functions of the long term care nursing department are provided in a cost effective manner.
2. Assists in the development, implementation of all Fayette Medical Center Long Term Care policies and procedures.  Interprets and communicates policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitors staff practices and implementation. 
   

3. Manages departmental budget and productivity standards.
4. Coordinates with staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating the orientation, continuing education and competency of all staff.

5. Works cooperatively with administration and/or medical director to communicate residents' status and needs, to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

6. Communicates directly with residents, medical and nursing staff, family members, department heads, and members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and services and respond to and resolve complaints or concerns. 
7. Participates in QAPI and Facility assessment activities as needed.
8. Routinely follows safety practices as outlined in the policies and procedures manual using proper equipment and procedures.

9. Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel and implements discipline according to operational.  Guides the supervisors with the implementation of appropriate disciplinary and grievance procedures.
10. Acts as the Abuse Coordinator for the Long Term Care facility. Reports any allegations of abuse neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation or mistreatment of residents to appropriate authorities and protects residents from abuse and coordinates investigations in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines. 
11. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation of the facility emergency plan.
12. Participates in all admission decisions to ensure facility able to meet the needs of the resident in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidance. 
13. Performs duties based upon established standards of practice for adults and geriatrics.
14. Interviews, selects, hires, and retains employees, including other management positions
15. Ensures orientation and training for employees, including other management positions
16. Participates in recruitment, hiring and termination of nursing personnel.
17. Promotes, demotes, or transfers employees to meet organizational needs, including other management positions

19. Provides strategic leadership for department(s), collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team,physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify and resolve issues and improve the quality of services. 
20. Performs long range planning and overall direction setting at the departmental level
21. Responsible for department organizational structure and alignment to meet forecasted business needs
22. Oversees nursing service schedules and is responsible to ensure resident needs, regulatory and budget standards are met. 
23. Approves payroll and is responsible for accurate payment of employees, including other management positions

24. Assists in the preparation of inspection surveys, including staff in-services on survey process.
25. Participates in developing and implementing the facilities plan of correction response to an inspection survey and reports any follow up required for nursing interventions. 
26. Promotes teamwork, mutual respect and effective communication departmentally and interdepartmentally.

Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and currently licensed by the state of Alabama.  Previous experience in a long-term care facility required.  Anyone hired after April 1, 2025 must have a BSN and Master's degree in Nursing or Health Related Field or must be enrolled in a Nursing or Health Related Master’s level program to be completed within 2 years. Minimum (3) years’ experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing home or other related health care facility.  CPR certification up-to-date. Working knowledge of The Skilled Nursing Facility Minimum Data Set, Resident Assessment Instrument, Patient Driven Data Model, Consolidated Billing, Quality Reporting, Value Based Purchasing, Payroll Based Journal programs required.  Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to Long Term Care required.  Computer skills required for general knowledge of facility computer systems. Demonstrates skills for communication with all population served.  Positive attitude toward the elderly.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
