Overview

The Nursing Outreach Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating initiatives aimed at recruiting, retaining, and developing nursing staff. The coordinator will support and enhance DCH Health System’s nursing recruitment, education outreach, and other community engagement efforts. This role includes working closely with the Nursing Programs Manager to implement creative strategies that promote nursing careers. The coordinator will assist with the development of the nursing extern and residency programs, as well as foster relationships with education institutions and the overall community. Additionally, the role will include working alongside human resources and nursing leadership to recruit and retain nursing staff with enthusiasm.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Assist the Nursing Programs Manager in implementing and maintaining nursing extern and residency programs.
  2. Schedules and coordinates student shadowing, externships, and residency program placement.
  3. Serves as a community-facing representative for DCH’s Nursing Division, attending and coordinating career fairs, public speaking engagements, and school presentations.
  4. Helps track and report outreach and recruitment data in partnership with the Nursing Programs Manager.
  5. Assists HR as well as other forms of leadership with the hiring process.
  6. Monitors and maintains up-to-date tracking of unit staffing and current vacancies to ensure alignment with vacancy demands and organizational goals.
  7. Review candidate applications within ICIMs daily to identify qualified individuals for any open positions.
  8. Conducts initial screenings and interviews for RN and LPN positions.
  9. Provides recommendations and feedback regarding candidate offer decisions.
  10. Serve as a point of contact for each candidate post-offer, supporting a smooth onboarding process through consistent follow-up and coordination with HR and unit leadership.
  11. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of recruitment trends and educational pipelines to improve strategic outreach.
  12. Assists in managing student support group sessions/mentoring during externships and nurse residency, promoting professional growth opportunities.  
  13. Promotes positive, professional interactions with prospective nursing candidates, students, and existing staff.
  14. Assists with conducting exit interviews for the Nursing Division.

Qualifications

 

  1. Registered Nurse with current Alabama or Compact State license.
  2. Bachelor’s degree preferred in Nursing.
  3. At least 2 years of experience in a nursing role preferred.
  4. Strong organizational, communication, and public speaking skills.
  5. Must be proficient in word processing, excel spreadsheet, and PowerPoint presentation software.
  6. General human resources process knowledge preferred.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  8. Must have reliable transportation and flexibility for recruitment travel and offsite events.
  9. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

  • The role involves travel to off-campus career fairs, schools, recruiting events, conferences, etc.
