Overview

The pharmacy technician III, certified assists pharmacists in providing medication to inpatients and outpatients of all ages and helps the pharmacist in any routine duties not requiring professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  1. Must successfully demonstrate and maintain Pharmacy Technician II, certified, competencies and be able to function in those areas as assigned.
  2. Accurately follows the assigned workflow in the advanced areas during their shift to include Advanced Narcotic functions, Surgery satellite, non-sterile and sterile products areas.
  3. Assists with maintaining accurate inventory; placing new inventory and restock/credits into appropriate places; and, participating in the efficient and economical use of supplies and resources; appropriately checks in inventory and basic purchasing.
  4. Demonstrates an understanding of UPS 797/800 standards and proper aseptic technique. Provides technical and clerical assistance to the pharmacists in the processing of medication orders and the monitoring of drug therapy. Maintains competency in production of hazardous medications.
  5. Systematically checks assigned area monthly for removal of outdated medication and cleanliness.
  6. Functions as a preceptor when assigned to train newly-hired pharmacy technicians in their new work areas.
  7. Participates in performance improvement activities.

  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Anyone hired after 12/31/2019 must be a high school graduate or have the equivalent.

Must be registered as a technician in State of Alabama by start date.  

Must have national certification by PTCB or ExCPT.

Must have and maintain Sterile IV compounding skills with Oncology or TPN compounder setup and production skills or have Advanced Narc Vault skills

Must be able to operate a computer, calculator and a telephone, transfer carts and other related pharmacy equipment. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Able to stand, walk, reach, sit, crouch and stoop for extended periods of time.  Must be able to carry objects weighing 35 pounds.  Requires good motor coordination with good manual and finger dexterity.  Must have the ability to communicate with staff and patients of all ages.  Physical presence onsite is essential.  Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.  Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
