Overview

Under the supervision of the clinical coordinator, the LPN assists with direct/indirect patient care based on experience, training, certifications, and demonstrated ability within the limits of the job description for the DCH Center for Occupational Health.

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Performs basic and/or advanced nursing tasks indicated for adult patients in the Occupational Health Department. 
  2. Performs task required to prepare patients for pre-employment or annual physical examinations outlined in employer’s protocol.  May include, but not limited to PFT, Drug and Alcohol Screening, Audiogram, Lab Test, EKG, Vision Screening, Vaccinations.
  3. Performs assessments and completes documentation for patients presenting for initial injury/illness care and reoccurring visits.
  4. Provides basic patient care or treatments, such as taking vital signs, measuring height, weight, assessing pain level, administering prescribed medications, wound dressings and application of splints/braces.
  5. Reports abnormal results and/or observations to provider.
  6. Anticipates the needs of the provider, ensuring that follow up test results, reports, and any outside documentation are available for review.
  7. Completes documentation and correctly organizes all medical data in medical record. 
  8. Provides and documents patient education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, and developmental needs, after identifying barriers to learning.
  9. Maintains a safe, clean and JACHO compliant work environment.
  10. Attends in-service programs, all mandatory required training/education and unit/department/service meetings.

DCH Standards:

  • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Holds a current Alabama LPN license and in good standing with the board.
  • At least one year experience in outpatient/ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Skill mix must include dressing changes/wound care and splint application. 
  • Urgent care experience preferred.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
