Overview

To perform standard and complex electroneurodiagnostic procedures and to provide guidance to Neurodiagnostic Tech I in their performance of these procedures.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform standard and complex electroneurodiagnostic procedures as ordered and according to accepted policy and procedure, on all age groups from neonate to geriatric.
  2. Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
  3. Monitor patients’ comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.
  4. Obtain and record patient identification and medical history.
  5. Adjust equipment and controls according to physicians’ orders or established protocol.
  6. Prepare and position patients for testing.
  7. Check, test, and maintain equipment, making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation.
  8. Supervise or train other technologists or students.
  9. Display ability to establish a good rapport with customers and display care, concern, and confidentiality to customers.
  10. Schedule testing and organize and plan work according to priorities established by departmental standards.
  11. Communicate effectively with nursing floors and escort concerning patient matters.
  12. Be prepared for emergency situations which may arise while patient is in the department. Biannual recertification in CPR is required.
  13. Must be adaptive and flexible to handle situations because of emergencies, changing workload, personnel shortages, new instrumentation, new procedures, changes in procedures, disasters, and/or unsuspected events.
  14. Must be motivated to perform at a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
  15. Must be mentally alert and perceptive to problems that arise and possible solutions. Displays accountability.
  16. Must have a basic understanding of neuroanatomy, electronics, and neurodiagnostic instrumentation.
  17. Must keep recording room, instruments, and materials used clean and in good and safe working condition.
  18. Perform clerical duties for department as needed.
  19. Able to take call according to policy.
  20. Responsible for checking email each shift and for communicating with Co-Workers, Lead Techs and Supervisors        
  21. Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  22. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  23. Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  24. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  25. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  26. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of training from an accredited EEG Technology program. Registration in neurodiagnostic technology by ABRET and two years’ full time experience as a Technologist performing inpatient adult and pediatric EEGs and Nerve Conduction studies. On the job training is unacceptable for this job.   Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

Exposure to disease, infection and body fluid may occur.

 

PHYSICAL FACTORS

Frequently able to stand, walk, kneel, sit, bend or crouch with good balance.

Must be able to maneuver over uneven or rough surfaces.

Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for 50 feet.

Assist in turning and positioning patients weighing up to and beyond 200 lbs.

Must be able to reach overhead to retrieve and/or replace objects.

Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.

Physical presence onsite is essential.
