Overview

The Administrative Internship is a paid program that provides practical work experiences to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing an accredited Healthcare Administration degree and/or MBA. The intern may be assigned to various site locations across the DCH Health system.

Responsibilities

  1. The intern will have access to a wide variety of department areas to obtain first-hand knowledge, operational, and strategy experience within the healthcare field.
  2. The intern is responsible for seeking out specific and substantial studies and projects.
  3. The facility to which assigned will further develop specific job standards and guidelines for the internship role.
  4. Administrative Intern will help manage diverse portfolio of healthcare projects and is expected to make meaningful contributions to the progress and work product of these initiatives and meet project needs.
  5. Becomes part of administrative team to carry out assigned work.
  6. Identifies and uses internal and external support resources to accomplish work goals.
  7. Offers information and perspectives regarding current trends and issues to stimulate new ideas and thinking.
  8. Administrative intern will help build a broad range of healthcare management skills.
  9. Works effectively with physicians, administrative colleagues and allied health staff to promote the team concept.
  10. May direct or lead the work of others in a work group or task force.
  11. Administrative Intern will meet with the leadership on a regular basis to discuss and to report on progress of current projects; will participate in the system’s strategic planning process; will assist in development of other programs and services as assigned; will assist in managing databases and inputs information, data, and records; will participate in the development of programs, processes or applications; will assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain presentations.

  • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  • Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
  • Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Be within the last semester of an undergrad degree in Healthcare Administration.  Active student within a MBA, MHA, or similar graduate level program.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Physical

  • Able to stand, walk, kneel, sit and stoop. Able to lift 10 pounds. Able to tolerate prolonged periods of sitting. Vision and hearing normal or corrected to within normal range.

Psychological

  • Frequent contact with others: deals with internal and external customers, face-to-face discussions, email and telephone communications.  Possible dealings with unpleasant or angry people, public speaking, and conflict situations/resolution.

DCH Standard

Physical presence onsite is essential.  Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.  Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
