Overview

The DCH-employed Police Officers perform needed security duties at the Regional Medical Center, primarily in the Emergency Department, but also in other areas, as needed.

Responsibilities

In the scope of duties as a sworn law enforcement officer:

  1. Perform various security/law enforcement functions in the ED and other hospital areas, as needed
  2. Utilize arrest powers as needed
  3. Assist hospital personnel as needed in the execution of their duties
  4. Act as liaison between DCH and law enforcement agencies
  5. Provide consultation to DCH with regard to law enforcement and security issues

 

DCH Standards:

  • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  • Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
  • Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Officers must be employed in good standing with the Tuscaloosa Police Department.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

            Interpersonal Relationships: Job requires contact with others including internal and external customers;

 dealing with physically aggressive, unpleasant and angry people; face to face discussions, dealing with

conflict situations, and is responsible for the safety of others.

Physical Work Conditions: Job may require exposure to bodily fluids, contaminants, disease, and infections and standing for extended periods.     

PHYSICAL FACTORS

Light lifting (up to 20 lbs.).  Must be able to be on feet for extended periods and be able to walk great distances.  Hearing must also be at a level where a voice pager, two-way radio, Southern Lincs, overhead paging, and telephones can be heard.  Physical presence onsite is essential.  Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.  Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
