Overview

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN administers compassionate care by maintaining standards of nursing practice and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients/families.  Encourages team members and supports their contribution.  Supervises; PCAs, PCAs/US, ED Clerical/PCA, CRSS and/or Techs.

Responsibilities

  1. Escort patients to exam room; take history and vital signs as indicated.
  2. Prepare exam/treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  3. Assist physicians with patient exams, procedures, test, treatments and minor surgery.
  4. Pass catheters on patients.
  5. Administer injections, medications and treatments as directed by physicians.
  6. Instruct patient in collection of samples, testing, procedures and surgery.
  7. Schedule surgery and office procedures. Schedule appointments, exams, and test as needed.
  8. Instruct patient and/or family regarding medications and follow-up care.
  9. Screen and respond to triage calls and ensure follow-up by nurse or physician.
  10. Obtain and send medical reports and records from other healthcare providers as needed.
  11. Sterilize equipment and instruments as used daily. Clean and stock rooms as scheduled and PRN
  12. Attend required professional and clinical meetings.
  13. Enter office charges and perform related support duties as assigned.
  14. Maintain patient privacy in all matters including written medical records and computer records.

  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Current Alabama LPN License required.  As of March 1, 2019 current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required. Must have basic computer skills to support the use of electronic medical record, e- mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. 

Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

PHYSICAL FACTORS

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Must be able to reach reasonable distances in any direction
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, stoop and lift
  • Must be able to run in an emergency
  • Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner and must be able to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape and size with fingertips

  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range
  • Must possess stamina to work 12-hour shift
  • Physical presence onsite is essential
