Overview

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the care provided on the patient care unit(s) that is consistent with the Mission and Vision of DCH Health System.  The Nurse Manager assures their unit/area of responsibility is aligned in achieving the organizational expectations/goals related to the organizational priorities and strategic objectives with focus areas of exceptional clinical outcomes and patient experience, safety, outcomes, community, people, growth and finance. The Nurse Manager is responsible for 24-hour management of the patient care area. 

Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates the provision of the Mission and Vision of DCH Health System by providing leadership and innovation within areas of responsibility. Follows the DCH Code of Conduct at all times.
  2. Supports service excellence across the organization.
  3. Supports and implements Performance Improvement activities with a continuous, systematic, and measurable approach in areas of responsibility.
  4. Sets performance expectations for staff. Develops working environment and avenues for education and training to meet those standards.
  5. Adheres to all regulatory requirements.
  6. Facilitates bidirectional communication to ensure timely exchange of information to all stakeholders.
  7. Treats all people (customers and employees) fairly and with respect.
  8. Provides performance feedback on a regular basis.
  9. Resolves conflict timely and effectively.
  10. Collaborates with physician/provider in establishing and maintaining effective, professional relationships.
  11. Maintains ownership for clinical and departmental operations.
  12. Participates in community programs/events as directed.
  13. Seeks opportunities for self-growth, professional development, and/or continuing education.
  14. Is visible and accessible to staff.
  15. Manages departmental budget.
  16. Creates an environment that supports employee recruitment and retention.
  17. Ensures orientation and training for employees.
  18. Responsible for executing progressive accountability up to and including termination.
  19. Manages departmental productivity standards.
  20. Reviews and approves payroll and ensures accuracy.

 

DCH Standards:

  • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.

  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse with current Alabama or Multistate License. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or must be actively working on Bachelor’s degree with completion date within 4 years of hire with evidence of active matriculation. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse, specialty experience preferred in applied area.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

 

Acute Care Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Cardiac Care Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS required.

Critical Care Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS required.

Emergency Department Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).

Perioperative Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS required. Additionally:

PACU – AHA PALS required

Prep & Discharge/Post-Surgical – Does not require ACLS.  

Rehab Current AHA BLS required.

Women’s/Children Current AHA BLS required. Additionally:

NICU – Current AHA Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and STABLE Program required.

Labor & Delivery – Current AHA ACLS, AHA NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required.

Mother Baby Unit – Current AHA NRP, and STABLE Program required.

Pediatrics – Current AHA PALS required.

Clinical Support – Current AHA BLS required. Additionally:

            Cardiac Monitoring Unit – Current AHA ACLS required.

North Harbor – Current AHA BLS required.
