Overview

The Registrar is responsible for obtaining patient information and validating documents, while completing an accurate account with no outstanding issues that would prevent a claim from reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  1. Enters patient financial and personal demographics in the computer in an accurate and efficient manner.
  2. Collects and compiles all appropriate documents required for the precertification process.
  3. Works with the referring providers, department secretary and the chief sleep tech ensuring accurate patient records and information
  4. Scans all physician faxed orders or clinical information sent to obtain authorization.
  5. Verifies insurance eligibility through appropriate source.
  6. Working and/or correcting registration or pre-certification errors.
  7. Obtains any required pre-certifications, referrals, or authorizations for all patients based on insurance requirements.
  8. Initiates needed authorization with Insurance Companies via website or by calling.
  9. Communicates any financial responsibility to patient/guarantor and follows front end collection policy as appropriate
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, hospital-based personnel and all other customers including informing patients of pre-testing requirements, expectations, and preparation.
  11. Ensures that patient charts are accurate, complete, and ready for hand off to sleep techs.
  12. Assists department secretary with front office duties as needed
  13. Answers phone for Sleep Center/Neurodiagnostics
  14. Works as back-up for Sleep Center/Neurodiagnostics department secretary
  15. Files reports/documents in Sleep Lab medical records
  16. Registers patients and verifies insurance as needed
  17. Insures that all Sleep beds are filled each night and maintains a cancellation list
  18. Confirms all scheduled appointments
  19. Distributes mail and telephone messages for the department.
  20. Responsible for checking email each shift and for communicating with Co-Workers and Supervisors.

  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.  Excellent telephone etiquette, strong medical terminology experience preferred, and computer skills/data entry required.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for 50 feet. 

Must be able to reach overhead to retrieve and/or replace objects. 

Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.

Physical presence onsite is essential.
