Overview

Under the supervision of the RN assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing unit by maintaining the physical environment of the area and administers direct and indirect patient care. Supervises Sterile Core Personnel.

Responsibilities

  1. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment and nursing units are maintained in a clean, safe manner.
  2. Responsible for providing standard of care to all patients.
  3. Monitors inventory and availability of routine and special order supplies
  4. Maintains smooth functioning of area to compliment OR staff.
  5. Coordinates Sterile Core personnel’s work assignments.
  6. Applies safety principles and proper body mechanics to the performance of specific techniques of personal and supportive care, such as ambulation of patients, transferring patients, assisting with normal range of motion and positioning.
  7. Assists in performance improvement (PI) activities by serving on PI teams as warranted, assisting with PI measures and supporting and implementing changes necessary for improvement.
  8. Follows safety practices and helps to maintain a safe, clean environment.
  9. Provides service in a cost-effective manner.
  10. Performs initial and annual competency per job class.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required. Mathematical skills required. Computer and/or computer software knowledge or experience. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. One year Central or Material Management experience preferred. Sterile Room or Operating Room Perioperative Services Technician experience preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
